No interior lights are required during
daylight hours of operation.
A larger but more energy-efficient store was designed
for good corner locations. We mocked up several roof
and skylight configurations and tested each for light levels
inside a scale model at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab Skylight Simulator.
New larger prototype for Santa Rosa
The most efficient daylighting came from an
8 ft. diameter barrel vault ridge skylight coupled
with motorized retractable perimeter sunshades
(awnings). The sunshades would come out to shield
the store windows as soon as the sun hit the glass.
